I am going to send you a link so that you will better understand how color scheme choices are chosen by better understanding the color wheel. This will also let you know that you do have color scheme choices and what they are depending on the colors your working with.

I would suggest shades of yellows, or greens.

As far as the chimney breast in the center of the room.

It really depends on whether it has exposed brick or sheet rock or other material covering it.

If it is sheet rock then you might want to accentuate it by painting it in the aubergine to bring the colors together as well as bring the focus to the fireplace.

If the fireplace is finished in darker materials. Then you might want to continue with the same paint in the area of the chimney to help it to be lighter surrounding the dark facade of the fireplace.

But if possible go with the rich aubergine color to tie the color scheme together. Do the aubergine color only on the area that sticks out not on the whole wall. Paint the rest of the wall the shade of yellow or green.

Or you could also paint only the wall with the chimney breast in the aubergine. However, paint the section of the chimney breast that sticks out in the yellow as well as the remaining other walls the same yellow or pale green.

Place some pillows in the added (yellow or green) colors on the seating to tie the colors together.

You will also want to make sure you also bring in art work that shares the color scheme. Maybe in the form of a painting over the fireplace.

Look at these items with the colors we are talking about to get an idea of how they look together.

Once you have an idea of the colors of paint your interested in I suggest that you go to the paint store to get paint chips to try them in your room.

After you choose the paint color I suggest you make color boards by buying samples of your choices by painting card board.

Once you have the color boards you can try them in the areas of your room during different times of the day and night to see if they are the colors you want.

You can even try them around in the room on different areas for a few days to see if your really like the colors.

You can even try the two tone paints side by side to see if that is how you want to go on the chimney breast.

Once you know the colors you can paint the rooms.

Without the high risk of needing to buy more paint to repaint later because your not happy with the shade in the room as the lighting changes throughout the day.

This step will save you time and money later having to do a repeat painting of the room.

This is the best I can do without knowing more about your space. Such as a picture of the chimney breast and how it presents itself in the room.

I hope this is of help to you.

Have fun decorating your space. What colour should i paint my wall? any room designer out there?
