Is there a product I can paint onto an exterior wall to give the existing paintwork a ';chalky'; appearance?

I have heard about a product called 'lime-wash', but I'm not sure if this can be painted over existing paint, or if it has to be incorporated into fresh paint before being applied?Is there a product I can paint onto an exterior wall to give the existing paintwork a ';chalky'; appearance?
