Is it better to install painted baseboards and caulk it or is it better to paint the wall first then install?

Really depends on how good you are with a brush and or masking.

If your going through the process of prepainting the baseboard, seems it would make sense to paint the wall first.

You may not need to caulk if the trim goes on tight and looks good.Is it better to install painted baseboards and caulk it or is it better to paint the wall first then install?
It is better to install the baseboard and caulk and putty it up, then paint the walls..You can pre-prime the baseboard first out on some saw horses before cutting and installing...If you paint the walls...then install it and caulk it, you will have to cut back in to the baseboard area with the wall color to cover excess caulking..here is the problems with this..For one, if you are using a paint with any sheen at all(especially eggshell) and have to cut in back on the wall to clean up the caulked edges more than likely the paint will ';picture frame'; on you...Also during instillation of the baseboards the walls will get dinged up some, requiring touch up, and again the eggshell if not touched up right will show everywhere you touched it up, thus requiring repainting thwe wall again..I do not care if the paint is out of the same excact bucket you painted the wall with, even us well experienced painters have troubles touching up eggshell and semi gloss..satin sometimes as well..install the primed baseboard, caulk and putty,(you can also pre sand the pre primed baseboard outside on sawhorses before instilation and save alot of bending)...then paint ceilings, then the walls coming slightly over the caulked edge, then paint the baseboard..be careful here..then the walls will need no touching up..also before painting walls you can spackle the dings from the baseboard instilation before painting the walls..if the walls are already primed..make sure to spot prime any dings spackled before applying the wall finish coat..Is it better to install painted baseboards and caulk it or is it better to paint the wall first then install?
if you cover it with Baseboards no need to , but I wouldn't caulk it , it will look tacky , trust me I did it and I hated it. That is for the Kitchen and Bathroom tub.
