I want to paint over a wall mural. Mural is very dark paint. Do I need to use special sealer or paint?

Primer is recommended so you can get better coverage, If your going with a specific color, ask the paint store to tint your primer so you can get better coverage and use less paint for top coats.

If its latex, just use ordinary primer, you don't need to get high end primer, just make sure the label says Hi Hide Primer. If its oil, use Zinnser High Hide primer, ( http://www.zinsser.com/product_detail.as鈥?/a> )

Bullseye1.2.3. is designed for stains (like smoke, tannin bleeds, water stains, etc) not for hi hide.

Kilz is another multi surface primer ( http://www.kilz.com/pages/default.aspx?N鈥?/a> )

or commercial/painters line of primers are usually hi hide because they want quick and easy coverage to get their job done. Check at your local paint store. Just make sure it says primer not sealer (sealer is a preparation coat for bare surfaces, usually drywall, metals, etc)I want to paint over a wall mural. Mural is very dark paint. 1. Wash your wall first with liquid TSP. Don't use the powder kind, as it's toxic, is harder to mix and will need to be rinsed off. Let it dry completely.

2. Prime your wall with a good quality primer. My favorite is Bull's Eye 1-2-3, as it covers most everything, is quick to dry and is latex based (believe it or not!). Primer is a mixute of glue and paint, sticking great to the wall to cover and also giving your new paint a good gripping surface. Here's the link:

3. Paint your wall the color you wish. If you're planning on painting a bright (pink), dark (blue) or vibrant color (red), you'll want to tint your primer to match the color of your paint. Using primer means you need less paint (which costs more than primer). It also helps your color to remain true, instead of soaking up a tinting of the color underneath.

Generally two coats of good quality paint will do it. Be sure and let the first coat dry thoroughly (12 to 24 hrs) before applying the 2nd coat.
Before using a quality paint, apply 1 or 2 coats of KILZ
Go to lowes or depot and get regular wall primer and put 2 thin coats on. It`s that ease.
at least a primer before paint.

ask at the store where you get paint they would know more.
1.2.3 bulseye or bin 123 or kilz
