Get a good primer as your base coat. Kilz is a solid brand. The primer will accept the pain better and provide a better finish. Make sure you sand down imperfections with a fine grit sand paper. Deep colors are nice but to make them stand out they need to be a little glossy and gloss paints will show imperfections more than matte paints. Once you have the primer done and everything is sanded and cleaned up figure you will probably do more like 3-5 coats for a really good deep red. On the other side remember that if you get sick of it it's going to take another really good primer and several coats of paint to get it back to normal because red bleeds through like crazy. The best place to look for info on how to this type of finish is the paint manufacturers website. Each product is a little different and for the best results you should do it how they tell you to do it.What is the best way to paint a white wall red?? I want it to be even and rich.?
You're going to need a good primer...I would use pink...then put on two coats of the red....Good LuckWhat is the best way to paint a white wall red?? I want it to be even and rich.?
latex paint
buy a rich red paint, paint using a roller and do at least two coats.
Use a dark gray (not pink!) primer to help establish depth, this will allow for the deepness in color that you are looking for. We did this in our bathroom and it worked great.
Red is one color that may take many coats of the red to make it true and rich. To save yourself some time and money, you should first prime the wall with a pink tinted primer. Any pink will do and use a primer, not a paint. Primer will make the application of your paint much easier.
When painting, do the trim first. When you are ready to paint the walls, apply the paint with a roller. Begin my making a large letter ''N'' on the wall with the roller. Then go up and down, filling in the non-painted spaces. Continue like this until the room is completely painted. Use the ''N'' all the time. This is the best way to avoid seeing paint lines and having uneven paint on your walls.
Don't worry about when you get sick of it. Sure, red is hard to cover after, but not if you use a good quality primer such as Bull's Eye 1-2-3 or Kilz.
Enjoy your new walls!
