Can you tile a wall that has oil based paint?

or would I have to prep the wall, such as roughing the surface? Can you tile a wall that has oil based paint?
Sure you can tile the wall... you can pretty much tile over most things. But there is a little prep work to do first...but not too much. Here's how to go about it:

1. Wash the wall with liquid TSP to remove all trace of grease and grime. Use the liquid instead of the powder as the liquid is easier to mix, isn't toxic and won't need to be rinsed off after.

2. Lightly sand the wall with a medium grade sandpaper. Wipe off the dust with a soft dam cloth and let it dry.

3. Tile your wall! Remember to choose wall tile and not floor tile... floor tile is too heavy...Can you tile a wall that has oil based paint?
You're welcome!

wouldn't hurt, but, probably not necessary. Wall tile is held in place with adhesive, unlike floor tile.
How long would it take to rub some sand paper on the wall?

despite what others have said, you can use heavy floor tile on the walls. You just need to us Ultralite mortar.
you can. but, roughing it will make it stay better. JW
